Grilling Outdoors as a Family

Even families who run small farm together  do not always have the time to gather and be silly – especially, once the children are grown and have lives of their own.

I see both my children almost everyday, but to just gather around the grill and get silly while setting up the fixin station – no.  Last night was one of those fun nights.  Everybody was together.

First we watched the secon jewel in the Triple crown  (horse race)  Won by a girl – Go Rachel Alexander!!!

Then guys manned the grill and us women handled the kitchen prep – tomatoes, onion, and lettuce were sliced, set up buffet style with all the ketchup, relish, potato chips. etc.  Then everyone fixed a plate and sat down to enjoy.  We watched the All-Star Race from Charlotte NC (we have all gone as a family when money wasn’t such a problem) The race was boring but the stories, jokes, and laughs that filled the family room while we ate and watched were great!!  Son Joshua and grand-daughter Caitlin roasted marshmallows.

It has been a hard week for all of us and there is still more hurdles to overcome – but I am trying not to allow the worry to win.  It will all be handled by a power greater than me.
