An Italian layered pasta dish made as a casserole. Easy and wonderful to make ahead and freeze.
When I was growing up Lasagna was the go-to dish to bring to the home when the new baby came home. It was also the dish to bring to the home of the grieving before or after a funeral.
My Family Lasagna
*1 lb. pork sausage, cooked, drained
*1 lb. beef chuck, cooked, drained
2 lg. cloves garlic, grated
2 TBS. oregano
2 TBS. parsley
1 TBS basil leaves, crushed
1 ½ c spaghetti sauce, traditional
1 container Ricotta cheese large
3/4 c. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
2 cups grated Mozzarella cheese – Reserve 1 cup for top of casserole
1 TBS sugar
1/2 pkg. lasagna noodles, cooked, drained (about 14 wide noodles)
Simmer in large pot, combine cooked meats, sauce, spices. In oblong casserole dish layer meat mixture, layer of noodles, meat mixture, cheese mixture; repeat – last layer is noodles; then sauce; then the Parmesan and Mozzarella cheeses until full. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Serve with salad and garlic bread.
*Sauté in heavy skillet with 1 TBS olive oil
